Prom at the last minute

Prom

is known by many to be the most eventful night in a young girl’s life. There is the primping, the tanning, the preparing and finally the most important, the dress shopping.

“Dress shopping is the most important part of prom, because it’s the part where you figure out how gorgeous you’re going to look, and how much better than everyone else you’re going to look.” Chelsea Dodson (11) said.

In this photo you can see the perfect dress that Cindy Wiggins (CHS’s 1981’s prom queen) chose for her special night. There are many differences between the 81 prom and the 08 prom. For one, the prom was held at CJHS. After prom, the attendees watched a movie, “High Anxiety”, in the PAC and then, following the movie, students were provided a continental breakfast from the school.

This year students crammed into a room at the Century Center, danced to music, and enjoyed the coffee bar that was offered by the school. Tyler Huxford and Kelsey Beobout were crowned as the 2008 prom king and queen and danced to “Crazy” by KCI and Jojo. As the night slowly fizzled to a hault, students left the Century Center with a night full of memories, and the realization that the end is coming near for the class of 2008.

new story

with the  end of the year approaching, students, seniors especially, are starting to feel the pressure that is being thrown at them. With Prom, graduation, open houses, last minute applications to colleges and shcolarships, i know that i for one am definatly feeling it. There are so many things to do in such a short amount of time. While everyone is talking about how they have all their stuff ready to go and know who their rooming with next year, i am still stuck between a rock and a hard place. The rock being IUSB and the hard place being ballstate. well with 27 more days to go, i wish all the seniors good luck on not being stressed, and senioritis isnt real…exemptions cured it.

State Speech

State Speech

This year, there are nineteen entries, more than ever before, that are going to be attending and competing in the state speech competition in Lafayette. The annual state competition will be held at Lafayette Jefferson on Saturday, March 29. The speech team was runner up at sectionals and lost only to Plymouth. The school  has been a dominant force for years past and just barely pulled ahead to take the win.

”Well we didn’t beat Plymouth but i have all the confidence that next year we will conquer them,” Chase Troxell (11) said.

Despite their loss, there are many that are proud of the team. The participants this year have had more placements and higher placements as well as more participation in general.

”I was extremely happy at my own performance, as well as the entire team.” Troxell said. “This is the first year that I get to go to state and I think it will be both a great experience and fun.”

Ryan Peat (12) won the title of sectional champion. He participated in discussion and his topic that he has chosen is alternative energy. This is a great achievement for his senior year.

“I was really honored to be the first sectional champion from Concord in ten years,” Peat said.

The participants will leave on Friday March 28, during the school day, at noon, to start their journey to Lafayette.

“It’s going to be a long trip and weekend, but we’re all hoping to do well,” Peat said.

When the students get to Lafayette they will be using the rest of the night as ‘‘prep,’’ preparing themselves for the big day. The entries consist of humorous acting, dramatic interpretation, impromptu and a number of other categories.

“Good luck to everyone competing at state,” Peat said. “I wouldn’t trade my time with speech and debate for anything,”

Strength and defying all odds

Filed under: Uncategorized — brittyface @ 4:08 pm

There are many different influences in my life that have helped me become the person that I am, one of them being my mom. My mother has been through so much in her lifetime. From divorce to cancer she has had many different highs and lows in her lifetime, but she still continues to press on and pretend to not have anything wrong.

When she was diagnosed with cancer she was such a trooper, she never complained, she never whined about pain. Instead, she continued to try to make our family happy. She wouldn’t allow any help in the house, or for dinner, but you could tell she needed it. Most would call this obstinate but I call it strength.

My mother has had such a great influence on my life. She has been through so much, but yet she still finds the time to take care of her family. She constantly is striving to keep our family going, and her ambitions are greatly appreciated.

Her strength has greatly influenced the way that I have turned out as a person. There are many different challenges that she has come up against and defeated them. This is why she is not only my mother but the person that has shaped me into the person that I am today.

As i was reading the newspaper this morning i looked down and saw that yet again Liz Kellys picture was plastered on the front page. You would think that by now i would be used to seeing her on the front page but im not. As i continued to read the article, I began to think to myself what is the point of this? All this article said was that she is sad that she is a senior. Nothing against her and her beautiful face, but havent we had enough of the worthless articles about nothing?? That is just my opinion. Musical tonight…go see liz.
